Applications for all scholarships due November 1, 2019


ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL CSCTFL SCHOLARSHIPS:

Scholarship applicants must:

  • Teach in the CSCTFL region (AR, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD, WI).
  • Be a practicing teacher with a teaching load of at least 50% in the foreign language department.
  • Attend the 2020 CSCTFL in Minneapolis, MN (March 12- 14) and accept the scholarship at the Awards presentation.
  • Present a 60-minute session highlighting the scholarship experience (sharing information and materials) at the 2021 Central States Conference OR create an online presentation or video about the experience to post on the CSCTFL website.

Send a single PDF file containing all of the items listed below to linda.havas@greendaleschools.org  no later than November 1, 2019.

  • Scholarship Application Cover Sheet
  • Current professional resume or curriculum vitae detailing professional commitment and significant involvement in the teaching of a foreign language (conference/workshop participation, curriculum development). (Note: participation in the Central States organization and/or attendance at past conferences will be advantageous and should be noted).
  • Evidence of how the experience will enhance your teaching explained in a written statement of not more than 200 words.
  • Evidence of institutional support in the form of a letter of endorsement from an administrator or department chairperson.

Goethe-Institut Scholarship

This scholarship, available to teachers of German in levels K-16, provides a one- or two-week professional development course at one of the 12 Goethe-Institutes in Germany in 2020; full information about available courses and dates can be found here.

Package includes:

  • Tuition and course materials
  • €500 honorarium to defray travel expenses (self-arranged); to be paid in Germany
  • Housing (varies depending on course location)
  • Breakfast every day and one main meal on Monday-Friday
  • Cultural program
  • Public transportation at seminar location
  • Medical, accident and liability insurance for the duration of the seminar and coverage for transport home in case of illness.

Not included: transportation to Germany and additional meals. Applicants must be members of AATG.

After completing this experience, the recipient is required to share information and materials obtained from the experience with CSCTFL, either as a session at the 2021 conference or an online presentation or video posted on the CSCTFL website.

Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of German.


Vivian Harvey Scholarship
Maximizing Language and Cultural Competency through Educational Travel to Peru Academia Latinoamericana de Español

Program Description:

A two-week Spanish language immersion experience and Indigenous Andean Culture or Regional Literature course including a home stay and four (4) hours of instruction per day.  Teachers may apply for Graduate credits through New Mexico State University.  The program consists of two weeks in the Imperial city of Cusco.

Dates: July 5 to 18, 2020

Scholarship includes:

  • Registration and tuition for two weeks
  • Housing with host family (double occupancy)
  • Breakfast and lunch each day
  • Laundry service once a week

Not included: Dinners; round-trip travel to Cusco; personal expenses.

Selection Criteria:

The scholarship recipient must teach in grades 11-12 or at the University level.  After completing this experience, the recipient is required to share information and materials obtained from the experience with CSCTFL. The scholarship recipient is REQUIRED to submit a short video highlighting the various components of the experience with photos.


Cemanahuac Educational Community in Mexico Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to provide an immersion experience for a teacher in a public or private K-12 Spanish program who has shown professional commitment to, and sustained involvement in, the teaching of Spanish language and culture. The award is valued at $1153.00.

Scholarship Includes:

  • Registration and tuition for two weeks.
  • Housing (double occupancy) with all meals.

Not included:

  • Airfare
  • Transfer to Cuernavaca (about $16 each way), textbook ($45), cultural field study trips and personal expenses.

While the program offers information about the rich culture and history of Mexico, the emphasis at Cemanahuac is on improvement of Spanish language ability. The recipient can attend at any convenient time in 2020; however, a special workshop for language teachers is being held in July and the recipient may enjoy this interaction with other teachers from around the USA.

Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish and who are committed to attending the full two-week session.

After completing this experience, the recipient is required to share information and materials obtained from the experience with CSCTFL, either as a session at the 2021 conference or an online presentation or video posted on the CSCTFL website.

Study Spanish in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

This scholarship is for two weeks of study, one-on-one instruction, five hours a day, five days a week, homestay with a local family, three meals a day, six days a week, daily social and cultural activities. There are more than 30 Spanish programs in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. The regular Spanish immersion program takes place all year. Dates are flexible because classes can start on any Monday year-round. Air fare and ground transportation are not included.

After completing this experience, the recipient is required to share information and materials obtained from the experience with CSCTFL, either as a session at the 2020 conference or an online presentation or video posted on the CSCTFL website.

Preference for this award will be given to non-native speakers of Spanish.

Centro Mundolengua

Initial Description:

Centro MundoLengua is an international Spanish school and educational tour operator based in Seville, accredited by the Cervantes Institute, that offers study abroad and authentic Spanish immersion opportunities in Spain for students from across the world of all ages & levels. We provide options for individuals and customizable group programs for middle school / high school, university, adults, and Spanish teachers.

Centro MundoLengua is offering one scholarship for 2020. The scholarship is available to middle school / high school / college Spanish teachers or future middle school / high school / college Spanish teachers. Our main goal is to ensure that the recipient of this scholarship learns pertinent information to be brought back and shared with his/her students.

Centro Mundolengua is providing Spanish teacher trainings in Seville, Madrid, and Cadiz. The scholarship recipient can choose whichever program he/she prefers, although some conditions apply. Below are the 3 different options:

I) AP® Spanish Language and Culture Workshop in Seville.

Dates: June 21 – July 4, 2020.

This workshop has not been yet officially endorsed by the College Board for 2020 (Endorsements are usually given in the fall). The scholarship recipient can only opt for this option if he/she is a high school teacher who is currently teaching AP® Spanish Language and Culture, or who plans to teach it in the near future.

The scholarship includes:

  • 30 hours of AP® Spanish development
  • Full room and board with a host family
  • Cultural activities
  • 24 hour support
  • Class materials
  • College Board certificate

II) AP® Spanish Literature and Culture Workshop in Madrid.

Dates: June 28 – July 4, 2020.

This workshop has not been yet officially endorsed by the College Board for 2020 (Endorsements are usually given in the fall). The scholarship recipient can only opt for this option if he/she is a high school teacher high school teacher who is currently teaching AP® Spanish Literature and Culture, or who plan to teach it in the near future.

The scholarship includes:

  • 30 hours of AP® Spanish development
  • Cultural activities
  • 24 hour support
  • Class materials
  • College Board certificate

III) Training course for Spanish teachers at the University of Cadiz.*

Dates:

  • June 28 – July 11, 2020: for Spanish teachers without previous experience or prior training, or those who wish to teach students at a novice level.
  • July 12 – July 25, 2020: for Spanish teachers with experience or prior training, or those who wish to teach students at an advanced level.
  • July 26 – August 8, 2020: for Spanish teachers with experience and prior training that would like to teach students at a superior level.

These Spanish teacher trainings are available for Spanish teachers as well as future Spanish teachers in middle school, high school, colleges, and universities.

The scholarship includes:

50 hours of training (including face-to-face training and individual studying)

  • Full room and board with a host family
  • Cultural activities
  • 24 hour support
  • Class materials
  • University certificate
  • Airport transfer from/to Jerez de la Frontera
